UNCW hosting National Institute of Native Leaders in higher education summer institute

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — UNC Wilmington will be the web site of this year’s Nationwide Institute of Indigenous Leaders in Greater Instruction Summer Institute.

Eight tribes and four urban Native communities are found in North Carolina.

“It is an honor to have the leadership inside of OIDI and the Watson University of Instruction partnering to support the institute, illustrating a commitment to supporting and rising recruitment, retention and graduation of Native and Indigenous college students,” explained Oxendine. “This is an awesome chance for Watson and OIDI to bring a larger amount of visibility to a group that has expert continued erasure of and lack of awareness about Indigenous peoples and histories in just schooling.”

The institute is open to any individual fully commited to supporting and raising recruitment, retention and graduation of American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or Indigenous students at community, private, and tribal colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada, Oxendine reported.
